Fue proyectado y construido en 1888, como entrada a la Exposici\u00f3n Universal de ese a\u00f1o. Son remarcables los relieves escult\u00f3ricos de Josep Reyn\u00e9s (que representan a la ciudad acogiendo a sus visitantes) y de Josep Llimona (que simbolizan la entrega de galardones).
